Description of the genre of the booka. The genre of my book is a fantasy. III. Settingsa. The setting changes many times during our hero's adventure. From the Hobbit's home to the Dragons cave, our heroes find them selves in cave, fields, and valleys.

The setting doesn't effect the character's choices other than having to follow a map. IV. Main Charactersa. Bilbo Baggins: is the main character of the story. He is a hobbit who prefers the silence of his house to adventure, but he is tricked by Gandalf and a group of dwarves to take a journey. Bilbo is not a hero, but as the story goes on he changes into a clever and brave hero. Throughout the book, he thinks of his home but performs the tasks stated in his contract with Gandalf and the dwarves.

His greatest achievement is finding a ring which makes him invisible. Gandalf: is a wizard who appears in The Hobbit occasionally. Gandalf is a friend of Bilbo's mother, Belladonna Took, and he brings together the Bilbo and the dwarves that begin the adventure. He has plenty of wisdom, magical skills (usually fireworks) and useful contacts with individuals. Smaug: is the villain of the story. He is a dragon that has terrorized several towns and, within his mountain, he guards a Thorin's treasure. Thorin Oakenshield: is the leader of the dwarves that accompany Bilbo to the cave of Smaug. He is focused on wealth, political ascendancy and historical lineage. He carries an old sword and he is heir to the throne established in Smaug's mountain.

However, Thorin is blinded by his greed and almost loses the wealth that he recovered. Bard: is a great warrior from the town of Esgaroth. As an excellent archer, he kills the dragon Smaug. Bert, Tom and William: are three trolls who capture the dwarves. Dain: is a cousin of Thorin who arrives to assist in the final battle. b.

Elrond: is a wise old friend of Gandalf. He replenishes the travelers' stocks and helps them decipher the moon runes of their map. c. The Elvenking: holds Thorin and the other dwarves prisoner. d. Dwarves who accompany Bilbo: Fili, Kili, Dori, Gloin, Nori, Oin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Balin, Dwalin, and Ori. Thorin is also included. e.

Gollum: is a creature that Bilbo encounters in the caverns of the Goblins. Gollum has lost his birthday-present, the ring which Bilbo found. He is by far the strangest character because he doesn't talk to people, he talks as though there were other people in the room. He also refers to himself in the third person. f. The Lord of the Eagles: rescues the dwarves in and saves the same dwarves in the final battle.

G. Roac: is a wise bird who can communicate with certain creatures; he seeks to avoid war but also aids in death of Smaug. V. Summary of the plota. The Hobbit is the story of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who lives in Hobbiton. He is interrupted by a surprise visit by the wizard Gandalf while outside his home. Gandalf has invited himself to tea and when he arrives, he comes with 12 of dwarves led by Thorin. They are planning on a journey to recover lost treasure that is guarded by the dragon Smaug, at the Lonely Mountain.

Gandalf has decided, for Bilbo, that the hobbit will make an excellent addition to the team and Bilbo is going to be a burglar. On the journey, Bilbo and the dwarves encounter all sorts of hurdles. From trolls, to goblins, to elves, to Smaug, the dragon. After an encounter with some trolls, Bilbo and the dwarves stay at the house of Elrond, an old friend of Gandalf. The group passes through a mountain chain and two of the dwarves, Fili and Kili, locate a cave for the group to sleep for the night, but the cave was full of Goblins.

After escaping from the goblins, he get lost in a cave with a character named Gollum, who he steals a ring. The ring makes him invisible when he puts it on. Then they get in trouble with giant spiders and with elves before the group actually arrives at Smaug's mountain. Bilbo uses the ring to rescue the dwarves from many situations. When Bilbo and the dwarves get to the cave, Bilbo puts on his ring and taunts the dragon.

The lake-town of Esgaroth is the victim of Smaug's terror because of Bilbo's taunting. Bard is willing to challenge Snaug and he has help from a messenger bird, called a thrush. The thrush relays information that Bilbo discovered while in Smaug's lair: the hollow of Smaug's left breast is not plated with his red-gold armor. When Bard strikes this spot, Smaug falls dead, his massive body crushing the city of Esgaroth. Many of the civilizations hear of Smaug's death and threatin the dwarves for money.

A large battle then forms over the fight of the treasure. The battle includes men, elves and dwarves. The separate groups are ready to attack until Gandalf tells them of the approach of the Goblins, bats, wolves and Wargs. The armies re-align themselves. The battle is named the 'Battle of Five Armies'.

It is only with the final arrival of the Eagles, that the forces of good are sustained. However, Bilbo is hit with a stone, and is knocked unconscious. After recovering in the company of Gandalf, Bilbo makes his way back home and their journey is far more pleasant than it was the first time. Bilbo is disappointed to learn that his greedy cousins, the Sackville-Bagginses, are auctioning his property because he is 'Presumed Dead.' It took years for Bilbo to sort out all the leagal things. In fact, Bilbo had to buy back a alot of his own furniture.

Bilbo, however, did find a pleasant medium to live by. b. The end of his journey is believable. It was certainly unexpected, but definitely believable. However, the very ending of the story is a little messed up. His relatives are greedy and sell all of his property, and when Bilbo returns, they are unhappy. So much for his family. VI. Themes of the novela.

Some of the themes of the novel are loneliness, imprisonment, and knowledge. These themes tell people that it is good to have friends and people to talk to. Gollum is one of the strangest characters of the book and he is alone. I believe that he would be some what normal if he had a person to talk to. Imprisonment comes from the dwarves always being captured by trolls, elves, and other such creatures. I think imprisonment says that you should always fight to be free and to be an individual.

Knowledge is showed by Gandalf and Bilbo. Gandalf constantly uses his knowledge of different subjects to predict what is going to happen. Bilbo uses the knowledge when he answers Gollum's riddles. I think having knowledge is a big part of life. The more you know, the better off you are. VII. Passagea.

'So comes snow after fire, and even dragons have their ending.' - BilboI am not sure how this captures the essence of the book, but when I thought about it, I felt as though it summed up the whole book. Throughout the whole book Bilbo and the dwarves are being bombarded with obstacles. This passage is saying how obstacles come, and how obstacles go. Everything has some sort of an end, I believe. VIII. Ratinga. I loved this book.

It was filled with action and adventure. Also showed me that some things are worth change for. Bilbo was never an adventure before Gandalf came, but now he is braver. Although, I don't think Bilbo will be going an adventures like that again. I give the book a 9.9. I must leave some room for a perfect book!.
